Clown fish and Anemones

There is an amazing symbiotic relationship between the clownfish and the anemone!  Though before a clownfish calls an anemone it’s home you will see it rub up against the anemone.  They will touch the anemones tentacles with their bodies on a consistent basis whilst acclimatizing to their host.  There’s actually mucus on the skin of the clownfish which creates a natural immunity to the lethal sting which an anemone is known to produce! The Clown fish uses the anemone for safety from predators. On the other hand in this amazing symbiotic relationship the clownfish returns the favor to the anemone by preening it’s host and removing any parasites.

But not all clown fish will call any old anemone home! Each variety of clownfish has has a personal preference!

The False Percula clown call the carpet anemone its home or even a bubble anemone! But would never be consider an Atlantic Anemone!  (Keep this in mind when selecting your clowns and anemones and make sure you consult your aquarium specialist)
